Celebrating The Women at MWHS: Melanie Hickman

As we celebrate the diversity within our organization, we take pride in fostering an environment where women not only excel in their professional roles but also actively support one another. This month, we introduce you to some of these leaders within our organization.

How long have you been at MWHS?

Melanie Hickman, our Business Support Manager at MWHS, plays a crucial role in our organization by offering software support to both our administrative and property management teams, as well as provides assistance to our residents.

“I have always enjoyed helping residents and hearing people’s stories,” Melanie says. Her journey with MWHS began 17 years ago, initially contributing to our main office where she managed the front desk and provided customer service.

What do you enjoy about working at MWHS?

When asked about the most fulfilling aspects of her role, Melanie highlighted the rewarding experience of providing support to those seeking assistance. She attributes her compassionate and empathetic approach to her roles as a woman, daughter, and mother.

How do you try to empower the women in your life?

In response to how she empowers the women in her life, Melanie underscores the importance of supporting her daughter’s decisions. She believes that respecting the diverse life paths of women and empowering them to make their own choices are paramount in fostering their strength and independence.

Have you had a strong mentor in your career? If yes, who was he/she and how did they help you?

Melanie excels in her position, serving as an integral part of our team’s technical support initiatives. Reflecting on her career, she acknowledges the influence of her mentor, Theresa Folks, who instilled in her the values of strong work ethic and the commitment to go above and beyond.

Theresa Folks was with MWHS for 31 years before her retirement this year. She leaves behind a legacy of exceeding expectations—a core value deeply ingrained in MWHS. Melanie, along with other mentees, carries forward this commitment to excellence, contributing to the vibrant tapestry of women at MWHS.
