Metro West Housing Solutions Recognizes Fair Housing Month with Lakewood City Council

On Monday, April 28, Metro West Housing Solutions proudly accepted a proclamation from Lakewood City Council in honor of Fair Housing Month. Equal access to housing is one of our most fundamental rights, and this recognition reaffirms the City of Lakewood’s commitment to ensuring that everyone in our community has a safe and stable place to call home.

The Fair Housing Act, enacted in 1968, is a landmark federal law that prohibits discrimination in housing-related activities based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status, and disability. As Lakewood’s housing authority for the past 51 years, MWHS remains steadfast in our mission to provide inclusive, income-based housing options that are accessible to all. We believe safe, affordable housing is the foundation for economic mobility, health, and self-sufficiency—and that everyone deserves the opportunity to benefit from these building blocks of a thriving life.

During this recognition, MWHS also called attention to the growing need for affordable housing in our community and across Colorado. In 2024 alone, 3,869 new applicants joined our housing waitlist, bringing the total to 10,760 individuals and families in search of stable, affordable homes.

We are grateful to Lakewood City Council for recognizing Fair Housing Month and providing a platform to elevate this critical issue. Together, we must continue to champion policies and investments that meet the increasing demand for affordable housing in our community.
